Lisa Sinclair

I'm Lisa, bibliophile, cryptic crossword champion and cat lover

Before taking the plunge as a freelance editor and proofreader in 2019, I spent five years working as an editor and project manager in the Editorial and Production departments of two academic publishing houses, most recently at Cambridge University Press, gathering expertise on a varied range of non-fiction titles. My insider publishing experience has given me valuable insight into the inner workings of academic presses and

their expectations. I have also cemented my editing expertise by taking the Society for Editors and Proofreaders' course Copy-editing 2: Headway, and have been accepted into the Chartered Institute

of Editing and Proofreading as a Professional Member.

Books I have edited and proofread range from biographies to scholarly theological monographs and science-fiction novellas. My main areas of expertise are literature, media and film studies, music and theatre, and modern history. After living in Paris for three years during my undergrad degree, I also enjoy working with texts featuring French, and achieved the C1 CEFR level in reading and writing in the TEF exam in Spring 2019. From 2020 to 2021 I undertook an MA in Translation & Interpreting Studies at the University of Manchester, receiving a distinction.

Though my experience mainly lies in academic books, I have also worked on quite a few newsletters and magazine articles, and have dabbled in fiction. I always welcome a new challenge, so whatever you need edited or proofread, get in touch with the details and we can talk it over.
